The other day I met a business owner who has been in business for a while, and when I told her I was a coach, she excitedly asked me “What’s the next best way to market my business?” ‘What a great question’ I thought!
So… you might be thinking, how did you answer?!
The thing is, there is no one, clear answer… So I told her “well, it depends”, not much use huh!
But I went on to elaborate…
Before you focus on marketing, you should first create the foundations for your business, this includes developing a business plan. From there, when you have a clear idea about what your business vision and objectives are, the next thing you need to really understand is your target customer. Who exactly are they? What do they do? What are they passionate about? This process should be quite involved, not just “they are middle aged women”, but a detailed summary of exactly who they are, what drives them etc…
The next step is to develop a detailed marketing strategy that is tailored specifically to this customer. This could involve paid advertising, networking, SEO, blogging, working with influencers, social media, presentations, referrals and other strategies, or, most likely a combination of a few. Then, finally, once you have a clear plan in place, the next step is execution!
So, while there is no “one size fits all” answer when it comes to marketing your business, with the right strategy, you can find your perfect clients who are willing to pay the right price.
