In today’s episode I’m going to show you how you can use your mind to make more money in your business.

So let’s chat about how to use your mind to make more money. Like I shared in the intro, when I share big client wins people want to know how did they do it? What did they do? And I know that my answer frustrates people because many years ago, when I would hear that it all comes down to mindset, I used to get really freaking annoyed, I mean, like, “But what have they done? What exactly, specifically have they done?”

 

And today I really want to talk to you about the power of mindset and why mindset really trumps strategy every time when it comes to having big breakthroughs in your business income.

 

What I say to those who say they “don’t need to do the mindset work”

 

Sometimes I hear people say, “I don’t need to do mindset work,” and I have to bite my tongue because, trust me, everyone needs to do mindset work. Even entrepreneurs that I have spoken to that are earning millions of dollars in their business still say that they have challenges that come up from a mindset perspective all the time. There’s this saying that Denise Duffield-Thomas says which is, “New level, new devil,” and it totally resonates. Every time you break through some old passions, stories and limiting beliefs, in your next level of income there lies a whole new bunch of stories that need to be unraveled. So everyone needs to do the mindset work. Even the most strategic business owners who are very practical in their methodologies will agree the power of how you think about things that happen in your business, and I’m going to dive into this a little bit more in today’s episode.

 

What is mindset and what it means invest with an abundance mindset

 

So let’s backtrack a minute here. What is mindset? Well, mindset is how you feel about money. This is so important because your thoughts shape the actions that you take and of course the actions create your outcomes. So how does your mind connect back to your ability to make more money? If you don’t believe that something is possible, you will have completely the wrong energy behind any action that you take.

 

So let me explain. If you make decisions in your life from a place of lack, what you are going to attract is more lack, and how you perceive the outcomes is going to be from a place of lack. Let’s just say that you decide to hire a business coach and you spend a lot of money on this coach and you think, “Oh my gosh, the only way I can make more money is if I throw heaps of money at a coach or a course or a program, and then I’m going to make a lot of money.” Now, of course, you know, I’m a coach, I’m a mentor, I believe in the power of investing, and investing with great coaches to get good outcomes, but if you’re investing from a place of desperation and thinking that this mentor or coach is going to be the answer to all of your problems, that is not making an investment decision from a place of expansion, it’s making it from a place of fear. It’s making it from a place of, “If I pay this person a lot of money it’s going to get me a really different outcome,” and thinking that you can delegate the responsibility for your own actions, your own thoughts, to someone else because you’re paying them a lot of money.

 

Is this making sense?

 

Similarly, this same sort of thinking can be applied to any decision that we make in business. If you are hiring a team member because you’re in a state of, “Oh, the only way I can possibly grow my business is that I have to hire someone and I don’t really want to but I know that I have to so I’m just going to do it. This will be the only thing that I can possibly do to save me,” it’s not coming from the right kind of energy as compared to making either of these decisions from a place of expansion. “Hey, my business is going so well. I feel really comfortable that if I invest in this coach, this program, whatever it might be, that this is a really fantastic opportunity for me to elevate my business. If I hire this new person, this could be the thing that really supports me to grow into my next level,” but it’s not from a place of, “This has to be the solution to my problem.”

 

If you’ve listened to the podcast for a while you’ll know I love to share the parallels between making decisions in business and dating and, you guys, if you’ve got single friends you might see this happen a bit. Have you ever noticed that when a friend goes on a date and they’re like, “This is the only chance I have,” or, “This person has to be the one or I’m giving up?” And you, from the outside, can look in and think that’s not a really great energy to be starting a relationship from as compared to going into a dating scenario saying, “Hey, I’m really happy. I love my life now and hopefully this person is going to be someone who will make it even better but if they’re not, I’m still going to be okay. I’m still going to be happy and live a wonderful life.”

 

I really believe that when we make big decisions in our business, from the right kind of place, we make it from a place of expansion rather than fear, there is a lot higher probability that the outcomes we desire are going to come to fruition.

 

Bringing positive energy into action taking

 

So the first way that your mind helps you make more money is that when you believe something is possible, when you are making these decisions from a place of, “Wow, this is something that could happen for me,” you already have a different kind of energy behind any action that you take.

 

Adjusting your perception to have a growth mindset

 

The second way that your mind helps you to make more money is that when things happen you will perceive it differently. Something can happen to one person and they will perceive it as a massive success and the same thing could happen to someone else and they perceive exactly the same situation as a failure. Does this make sense? I’m sure this has already happened to you at different stages of your business journey. I still remember the very first coaching client that I ever signed and when she said, “Yes,” to working with me. Wow, I was making $1,000 a month from this client and I was glowing with excitement whereas these days my coaching fees have increased quite a bit. So if I was to sign a new client at $1,000 and that was all that I could charge, I would probably deem that not as a success these days, only because my business has changed and therefore my perception of success has changed.

 

I have a couple of girlfriends who teach people how to launch courses, and they said it’s so interesting observing how people’s mindset plays so strongly into that process. They share that, sometimes, someone can sell one course through their launch and they are jumping around saying, “Yes, I can’t believe somebody bought my course.” They are absolutely ecstatic at the idea that someone has invested to work with them. Conversely, other people might launch their very, very first course and have only five people join and they are absolutely miserable. They can’t believe they spent so much time and money and energy to only sell five courses.

 

So how you think about things, how you are perceiving things, has such a strong impact on your ability to create more because if you have your first course launch and you only sell five spots, if you are living in a state of lack, you’re going to say, “This whole course thing is an absolute disaster. I am not doing this again,” as compared to perceiving exactly the same situation and saying, “Yes, I can’t believe five people bought the first round. Imagine how many more people are going to buy off me in the future.”

 

The way that you think about things is absolutely everything because it affects what you will then do next. If you have an unwavering belief that your success is inevitable, that it’s definitely coming, if you have a faith that you are worthy and deserving of all the success, you will have a massive ability to keep on going even if things don’t play out the first time. Or, on the flip side, if things do go really well, having a fantastic mindset means that you’ve got the confidence to continue, to lean into investments, to continue to hire, to continue to scale your courses and invest in the infrastructure and the team and the support that you need around you to continue to scale the success that has unfolded, as compared to if you have success and then you think, “Well, that was a fluke,” or, “That was a one off and I just need to be happy and stable and sit exactly where I am,” then you won’t continue to elevate and achieve the results that you want moving forward. If you are wanting to use your mind to make more money, first of all you have to believe that a thing that you desire is possible and possible for you.

 

And, yes, of course you need to take action. You don’t just lie around on bed meditating all day and hope that money just lands in your bank account, but action is only a really small part of the process. The big shifts, the big actions that you take come from shifting how you think about things, from navigating through your old stories of fear and lack, and reprogramming into a place where you know that anything is possible if you just keep on showing up and taking aligned action and never, ever give up. Mindset and taking the right action, of course, is the key to having big breakthroughs when it comes to your money goals.
