We are hurtling towards the end of the year faster than you can say “Where did 2024 go?”. In today’s episode of the podcast, I’m going to talk to you about something super exciting, which is the proven method for hitting all of your goals in 2025. Now I know this sounds like a big promise, right? But stick with me because I’m going to share some of the best practices I use with my clients and myself to set clear, realistic goals and actually achieve them.
I don’t know about you, but I love the energy that a new year brings. It’s like you get to turn the page, start fresh and set your sights on everything that you want to create in your life. But here’s the thing, that excitement only takes us so far, and this episode is about how to keep that spark alive but also to achieve your goals so that come December 2025, you’re looking back and saying, yes, I actually did that.
So let’s get real for a second, what is the reason that most people don’t actually hit their goals? Well, the truth is most people don’t actually set goals. And there’s been studies done that show that Even if all you do is write down your goals, you increase the chances of hitting them by 40%. Isn’t that mad? I know for me myself when sometimes I look back at old journals that I’ve written or old goal lists that I’ve written, I think I wasn’t even consciously taking action towards it, but the fact that I’d written it down meant that it was sitting in my subconscious mind. But sometimes what happens is that we do go through goal setting. We’re setting the same goal year after year after year and we’re not achieving them. We’re getting frustrated and we think, Maybe goal setting just isn’t for me. Here’s the thing though, it’s not that goal setting doesn’t work. We know that it works. I know from back in my corporate days, we used to go through an annual planning process every year because goal setting, budgeting, planning, this stuff does work. But the reason you might not be hitting them is because your goals are too vague. Maybe they’re too big. Or perhaps you aren’t creating a plan of how to make them happen. Maybe you do go through a goal setting process and you just aren’t taking action towards them. So what we’re going to do now is break down a goal setting process that can help you to get clear about what it is that you want and actually take action and stay on track.
The first step in the process that I always take is setting the vision board. Now the vision board is the place where you can dream big, there’s no limitations here. I get super expansive, super excited to give you some context. My vision board for 2025 literally has a yacht on it. So this is a place where you get to dream big, play around, really think about if there was no limits. What would I want to create?
The next step that I then take is to break down into the goals for the next particular year. Now, I hate to say this word, but I don’t want to say the word realistic, but it’s where we kind of get a bit more like, what is something that is going to be both exciting and achievable within the next 12 month timeframe. So a lot of times this is taking that, you know, the, the big life vision and breaking it down into what the next 12 months can look like. I do this across all areas of life. So business is absolutely one of them. Finances is one of them, but also having to look at other different areas of life as well.
I’ll give you an example on my vision board is to build the dream house. I’ve shared before many times in the podcast, we’re very, very blessed to own our dream block with 18 meters of beach out the back, but our little house that we live in at the moment, isn’t exactly going to serve our family for long, particularly as our boys grow up at the moment, they’re sharing a bunk bed in a very small room. My hubby and I are sharing a very small office, and I know that we’re going to outgrow this house . But at the moment, based on where our finances are, having the dream house built might not be something that in the next 12 months is going to unfold. Even if we did have all the money, you know, building, planning, all of these things take time, but something that is on my plan, my 12 month goal for next year is to have the swimming pool done. So basically what we’ve done is we’ve taken that. Big, big picture thing. And we’ve broken it down into stages and we really think that it’s possible for us to be able to be at our pool area at the back of the house without actually touching the house in the next 12 months.
So have a bit of a think about what that might look like for you in some areas of your life. Maybe on the vision board is that you want to find and marry your soulmate. But perhaps to meet someone, maybe you’re single at the moment. Like you might go within the next 12 months. I want to have a loving and connected relationship that might one day lead to marriage. Are you seeing what I mean?
So in this 12 month plan, it’s kind of getting a little bit more practical about what those things look like. And like I said, I actually break this up into light sections. I do want to interrupt this episode here and share If you would like to go through this process using my templates, some of the specific ticks, tips, and tricks that I use, taking this process from conceptual into actually using it for your own goal setting, I am running a 2025 planning workshop. If you would like to be part of it, I’m going to click on the link in the show notes for today’s episode. It’s going to be run on zoom, so you can join me from anywhere in the world. And it will be hosted live, but again, you can catch the recording and I’ll be showing templates, frameworks, my tips and tricks for goal setting. So please do go and check that if you want to learn what this looks like in a little bit more.
Alrighty. So after you’ve broken down the 2025 goal, goals, the next step is to actually reverse engineer those goals. And this is where I talk about the money side. Okay. If we are going to create this outcome, what does this look like in the business? This is where the rubber actually hits the road. And we take the goals that we want to achieve and convert it into our profit plan, actually breaking down the sales targets month by month, and also breaking down the expenses or investments that we need to make to achieve those sales targets.
A big mistake that a lot of business owners make is they say I’ll double my business in the next year. And I’m like, awesome. How are you going to do it? And they’re like, what do you mean? I’m just going to keep doing the same thing. The truth is to create breakthrough results. You need to take breakthrough action. So that might look like hiring a coach, joining a mastermind, hiring a team member, investing in new systems .Building a new website, up leveling your brand. And a lot of times people aren’t making this connection. They’re like, I just want to make more sales without really doing anything differently. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately it usually doesn’t work like that. So this part of the process is where we break it down. We have a look and say, Okay I want to be hitting this much money. I need to make that much to achieve that goal. For example, for us to put the swimming pool in, it’s probably going to be about 150, 000. So if we’re going to have, if we need that much money for that, what does that look like in after tax dollars? After, of course, we paid all of our, our other household expenses. What do we need to be earning in each of our businesses to make that goal happen? There might also be non financial goals that we need to build into here. So one of your goals might be, I want to only work three days a week. And again, how does that then tie back to your sales plan and your investments? You might need to hire additional help to make that happen. You might need to think about what the impact will be on your sales. If you were working less than you were before, but what we’re doing in this step is we’re solidifying those goals into a plan. And I really think doing a month by month plan is a really effective way to do that. I know that this process works because I have done this with many clients of mine over the years. And a lot of times we see why their growth has fallen down in the past. They start growing and then the business crumbles because they didn’t have the support behind them. Whether that’s the support of a, of a, a coach or a mentor or the support of actual team members to get in and help them do the work. But this process is very powerful in the creation of outcomes.
The next phase of your goal setting is of course, the power of consistency and accountability. Again, a big mistake that people make is they come through, they set their budget, Oh, I’ve got my plan. And they never look at it again. How are you actually staying on track? Are you sitting down and tracking your actual performance against your plan each month? Do you have someone who’s saying to you, Hey, you said you were going to start showing up more regularly on social media and you’re not doing it. Have you got someone keeping you accountable? Accountability can look different. Everyone, it might be that you are accountable to your partner, but some people do really well with the coach. Hello. You might also find that being in a mastermind container or being in some other sort of program might really help to keep you on track, but there’s a lot of power in accountability. And this is why I love to do my regular check ins with my clients. Hey, You said you were going to do this thing. How are you going? And of course, we’re also celebrating wins and adjusting as needed, which leads me to the last thing that you need to bear in mind is having the ability to be flexible when it comes to your plans. Yes, we are going to create this month by month broken down plan, but life happens. And sometimes we don’t always get to where we want to be. You might hit a goal that you wanted to get to 20, 000 by March, and you’re only on track for 15. But that’s okay. This is the thing we need to be flexible with our plans. And flexibility doesn’t mean that you give up on your goals. It just means that you’re willing to adjust. And if something isn’t working, we take a step back and ask why.
When I used to work in corporate, we often like big, big global companies would miss our goals. And we’d be like, right. What’s happened? What’s the data telling us? What do we need to do? How do we pivot? We don’t go, well, goal setting never works. What a waste of time. Let’s forget about the whole thing. It’s about being able to adjust, learn, and keep working towards those goals. Something I think that’s really important to highlight here too, is sometimes it’s okay to miss goals. You’re probably still achieving more, even if you’re missing them, then you were, if you hadn’t said it in the first place, I was reminded of this yesterday, because I actually set a goal that I wanted to be on a hundred podcasts as a guest by the end of the year. And someone said to me, Hey, how are you going with your goal? And I said, well, You know, at the timeline of it might be pushed out a little bit, but I said, the fact that I set this goal, I have been on a hell of a lot more podcasts than I would have been if I hadn’t set the goal. So see what I mean? Even though I didn’t quite, I’m not quite on track to hit the hundred. In fact, I’ll probably miss it by quite a bit. I’ve been on a hell of a lot more podcasts than I would have been if I hadn’t put that intention or that goal out there in the first place. And I’m still celebrating the crap out of that.
All right, my loves, this brings us to the end of the episode. Let’s just do a quick recap. The best way to hit your 2025 goals is to actually have some fun. I like to start with a vision board, break it down into the 12 month plan, and then break it down into a month by month framework of how to actually create those annual goals.
