As I record this episode of the podcast I’m about to go on retreat with a group of my multimillionaire friends, and it’s got me. Thinking about how I ended up here hanging out in these circles, and also around how it’s completely shifted my perspective on what’s possible.

So today’s episode is all about rich friends and having a rich mindset and how the people you surround yourself with can completely transform your financial thinking. Alright, let’s dive in.

Now the first thing you are probably thinking is. How did you end up in rooms with multimillionaires in the first place? And that’s a [00:01:00] fair question, and the answer probably isn’t what people expect. It certainly wasn’t about growing up in a rich family or going to a fancy high school. I went to a free public school in a lower socioeconomic area.

This journey has actually been about deliberate investments that I’ve made in myself as I’ve grown my business through joining masterminds, going along to retreats, paying to be in these high level programs. And of course it didn’t start like that. My first investments were much smaller investments, and then over time I paid to be in different rooms.

So the thing is, what I’ve discovered from being in these spaces is that when you are investing to [00:02:00] be in a container, whether it’s a course, a retreat, etc., you will form connections, natural connections with some people and other people, not so much. So it’s more about like be giving yourself the opportunity to find those cliques and those people that you do connect with.

It’s not about like, you know, “I’m going out to find rich friends.” It’s just around, “how can I be around the energy and find if there are people who I do connect with, who perhaps can expand the way that I think about money and wealth creation in particular inside your business.”

Another way that, I guess have changed my circles, the way that I do spend most of my time in the energy of multimillionaires has been because of this move that we’ve made to live in an affluent neighborhood. If you don’t know the story, I’ll share it with you, but essentially, years [00:03:00] ago, my husband and I came up with an idea that we wanted to move to the beach and not just to be near the beach.

We actually wanted to have a waterfront home. And at the time, that seemed like the most ridiculous idea. We were renting at the time, barely affording our rent. And we had this idea, and I’ve recorded many podcast episodes about it over the year, about the journey, how we went about the process of actually making it happen, both from an energetic and also a practical perspective.

But we’ve lived here for three years now and we have an 18 meter beach at the back of our house, which is just, to this day, I walk out there and I get overwhelmed with emotion around how grateful we are to live here, but you know, we do have the worst house on the best street. And you know, that’s what they say to do [00:04:00] with real estate, right?

They say buy the worst house on the best street. So look, we absolutely love our block. It is still the dream, it is still a vision to build our dream home here one day. But anyway, I’ve gone off on a bit of a tangent. The reason I was sharing that is, by the very fact that we live in a wealthy neighborhood, we are naturally surrounded by people with a higher net worth.

So for example, the families at the kids’ school, the families who go to the soccer club, they have money, and our neighbors do. And my husband and I are both very social people. We are always out connecting with people and saying hi. So, you know, we’ve befriended a lot of our neighbors, which is really fabulous and I wanna share that, you know, as much as I have in invested in Masterminds and we, we are in a, a lovely neighborhood in the spaces, I [00:05:00] formed genuine connections with people who just happened to be wealthy.

I’m not hanging out with people just because they’re rich. It’s because you find people that you can say, actually, we’ve got common values around growth, and possibility, and impact. So as much as it is around, being around wealth and with some level of intention, for me, I am certainly not hanging out with a bunch of rich assholes just for the sake of it.

I am just being in the energy of people and seeing if there are connections there. And here’s the cool thing that I’m finding about having rich friends. I love hearing about other people’s financial situations and perspectives and just getting really expanded by it. So an example of this, we’ve become very good friends with neighbors of ours who don’t actually live here.

They live in [00:06:00] Melbourne, and their house here is their holiday house. So it just sits empty the rest of the time. So here we are thinking our Waterfront Beach hack is so freaking cool. And for them, their house is just sitting there empty. It’s just a holiday home and it really starts to make you go, wow.

And the other thing, it’s not even just their only holiday home, they own a third property, which they also go to, which again, sits there empty a lot of the time. You know, a conversation that really stands out to me about the way that people think really differently about financial situations.

One of my good girlfriends, whenever I chat to her, she’s like, “why haven’t you built your house yet?” And you know, because I’ve got such a positive money mindset and I talk so positively about money, I just say, “yep, we’re working on it.” But it’s just interesting, it never kind of [00:07:00] occurs to her that I wouldn’t just have the money sitting in a bank account ready to go and build a house.

Does that make sense? Like, she’s like, “why haven’t you done it yet?” And, you know, I don’t wanna be misleading. I’m sure she’s aware that, you know, we’re not in a position to go and do it right now. But yeah, it’s just interesting to me that she, that’s the way that she thinks. She’s just like, “I would just go and do it.”

So. I’ve gone on a bit of a tangent as I tend to do, but let me take you back to the time that I went on a retreat with these multimillionaire group of people last year, around this time last year. So it all came together because I was speaking at an event where a lot of these business women were speaking as well.

I was speaking on stage doing a keynote, and there was a group chat set up and I got added to the group chat. And I have to admit, I felt like such an imposter when I first was out there. I thought, [00:08:00] do they, I, I don’t know how I’ve ended up here. And so the time that we went on the retreat last year, I was really nervous about it.

Am I gonna fit in? Am I going to have to pretend to be someone that I’m not? And actually, what I realized when I was there, firstly, I totally belonged there. Everyone respected me, wanted to hear my opinion, and I could be completely honest and transparent about money without feeling judged around it.

Just because people are rich doesn’t mean they are any better than you, and they’re just in a different financial position. But one of the conversations that I remember from last year’s retreat that really blew my mind because we were talking about money and you know, I was talking about the house and I mentioned something about interest rates and a couple of them sort of glazed over a little bit and then.

There was [00:09:00] this pause, and then one of them said, “well, you know, I actually don’t have a mortgage.” Another said, “I don’t have any debt.” Another said, “we’ve paid off our house.” And these are all people that live in multimillion dollar properties. So just let that sink in for a moment. Here I am, you know, with a big mortgage, but a feeling so expanded by the beautiful property that I live in.

And a lot of these people at this retreat are playing at a completely different level. They weren’t even aware what was going on with mortgage rates because they’d structured their finances in a way that they had purchased properties outright. It was one of those moments where you suddenly become aware of a ceiling in your thinking.

You know, I’ve kind of fallen, I guess, into a bit of a way of thinking that mortgage is just part of life and then this new possibility emerged, “hey, what if mortgage free living isn’t just something that people do when they’re like 65 years old about to [00:10:00] retire? What if it’s something that’s achievable at my age right now because these women, these people in this, this retreat are the same or similar age to me.” So this was what was really cool and spending time with people with money, being around friends who are at a different financial position, it’s really cool to hear their thinking. And when they’re faced with a goal or a challenge, there’s not this sense of,

“can this be done or that’s impossible?” The question or the way of thinking is, “how can I make this happen?” I remember when I was hanging out with a, a group of my wealthy business friends and one of them said something about wanting a new car, and then someone else in the group said, “well, send an email,” meaning put out an offer to your email list and boom.

You are gonna make enough money [00:11:00] to buy a freaking car. Like how cool is that to be in a position? And this is what I mean about expansive thinking. It’s not about commiserating over obstacles, it’s about finding paths forward. And when you are around this thinking, when you’re regularly exposed to this kind of thinking, it becomes contagious.

I know for me, I have started approaching my own goals completely differently. Now, I know I’ve kind of said this in a few different ways, but something I do wanna emphasize, the wealthy friends that I have are not my friends because I am just willing to hang out with rich people at all costs. People became my friends because we authentically connected around shared interests, challenges, and aspirations.

So what I’ve noticed is that people are hungry for real connection, [00:12:00] to be around people that they can have a laugh with, and silly jokes, and have similar conversations around families, fears, and supporting each other’s visions. Now, this is something I’ve really noticed is happening in the Profit Collective community.

So inside my own mastermind that I’m running, there are growing friendships and connections happening. And when I first started this community, I’d really hoped that this is what it could become, but the reality has already exceeded my expectations in the most beautiful ways. So inside the Facebook community, I’ve watched the members who are inside, who are strangers just a couple of months ago, are now starting to support each other through some really vulnerable experiences in business.

They’re celebrating each other’s wins, like people are jumping in there and being so excited and surprised and happy for each other. And everyone’s also been matched up with a little accountability [00:13:00] buddy, and I know that I’ve popped into a few of these calls. Just have a little bit of a listen and a watch and watching the way that they are keeping each other to account, watching the way they’re cheering each other on.

It’s a really, really beautiful thing to witness. And I just know, you know, I’ve got my retreat with my multimillionaire friends next week. I’m also hosting a retreat with the Profit Collective in a couple of weeks time, and I’m so excited for this because that experience of hanging out in person is so different to online. There’s something about the human connection, about the mannerisms, about actually just hanging out in real life, that’s really cool. So I’ve got some amazing things planned for the retreat, including a really bougie dinner to close it out, and I just can’t wait to observe the magic that’s gonna happen.

Being in circles, having rich friends, has created profound shifts in my thinking. And here’s a couple of things that I wanna share with you [00:14:00] to close out this podcast episode. Firstly, I’ve realized that wealth isn’t just about money. It’s about having options. My wealthy friends aren’t, you know, as interested in the next house, or you know, they’re not thinking in survival mode.

They’re focused on creating freedom of choice around how they spend their time and their energy. Money is just a tool to support them to do that. Another thing that I’ve noticed is that there’s rarely the limitations around the way of thinking about finances. So instead of saying, I could never afford that, it’s often like, I’m choosing not to do that at this point in time because of this.

Or if I wanna do that, here’s how I’m gonna go about doing it. And the other thing that I’ve noticed is that wealth creation, like next level wealth creation isn’t mysterious or magical. It’s just about patterns that can be learned and applied, seeing the [00:15:00] opportunities, managing resources, and making decisions.

And the last thing that I’ve noticed is that surrounding yourself with higher levels of success doesn’t make you greedy or materialistic. It just simply expands what you perceive as possible for yourself. So as I’m heading into this retreat next week with my multimillionaire friends, I’m bringing a different energy than I did last time.

I’m not intimidated. I’m showing up as a peer knowing that I’m bringing a lot to the table. And if there’s one thing I hope you take from today’s episode, it’s this: it’s the quality of your thinking is directly influenced by the people you regularly surround yourself with. So find yourself people to be around, whether it’s mentors, biz friends, your social circle, get yourself in the energy of people who [00:16:00] expand your sense of what’s possible, rather than reinforce your limitations.

So until next time, keep expanding your mind, your circles, your possibilities, and of course your profit.
